Frankford Passes By Southern 27- 0

If offense was your preference on a very hot Saturday afternoon at legendary Frankford High School Stadium in Philadelphia, then perhaps you should have stayed home and watched College Football instead.

Frankford won the contest because of their ability to throw the football just good enough to capture the win.

Chester’s Defense and Some Twin Play Lead the Clippers

The Chester Clippers from District 1 and the Braves of John Bartram High School from District 12 went head to head at the South Philadelphia Super Site near the stadium complex on Pattison Avenue.

The Clippers prevailed, 16-12, after jumping out to a 16-0 lead by scoring two touchdowns in the second quarter.  Appropriately the first score came via an interception return of 79 yards by Tahmir Reese.

By Mark Carfagno

Football player in No. 40 black and gold jersey.

Roman Brown led the N-G defense with eight tackles.

The game was hyped as Philly against New York City.  Boarding a bus from Brooklyn, the Chiefs of Canarsie High School made the 100 mile trip to the South Philadelphia Super Site for a Saturday afternoon contest against the Saints of Neumann-Goretti.

According to a New York website, the Chiefs were ranked 8th in the city and 9th in their section. Max Preps had the them ranked 133rd in the state.  Those are impressive numbers when considering the size of both New York City and the state of New York.

Neumann-Goretti, on the other hand, was ranked 10th in the Philadelphia Inquirer’s  Southeastern  PA’s top 10. Max Preps had the Saints ranked 66th in the state.  The state rankings are based on all classifications, so yes these two squads are right up there with the bigger schools.
