Mummers Movie

Here’s an interesting story about a movie that will be coming out that involves the South Philadelphia String Band.Mummers MovieÂ
NOTE: Dan Gross reports in today’s Daily News that the movie snagged a Grand Jury Award for Best Narrative Feature at the 14th annual Slamdance Film Festival, which runs alongside the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah.Â

The movie was watched on Sunday, Febuary 10th, by members of the South Philadelphia String Band. About 30 members watched the preview at their clubhouse located near 29th and Porter Sts. There was complete silence during the showing, which is quite unusual , when inside a Mummers Clubhouse. … SMILE … !!! The group came away very impressed and are looking forward to future showings in Philadelphia and New York City. They are hoping for the best for the Orchestator of the film, Tom Quinn, who followed the band around for about 3 years while capturing the unique culture of one of Philly’s greatest traditions, through the eyes of a camera. Good Luck to TOM and his movie “THE NEW YEAR PARADE ” .
hey Frog,
Thanks man! It was so great to finally show the band after all of these years. I’m glad you guys like it and hope you all can feel proud of it. It’s funny because I commented on the silence in the club as well – I never heard it so quiet as when the movie started. Crazy!
Thanks again for the support. I’m looking forward to your book!
Tom
